First Provisional Regiment

A. The First Provisional Regiment medal commemorates service by New York Guard members and by members of the Veteran Corps of Artillery, State of New York (VCA) serving in the First Provisional Regiment during World War I to guard the NYS Aqueducts. Over 100 shots were fired at soldiers of the regiment doing their duty and over 40 soldiers of the regiment gave their lives during this mission.
